Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has on Friday, taken his third booster CoronaVirus vaccine, while urging the general public to take the jab in preventing another round of lockdown in the state and the country.
Speaking shortly after receiving the vaccine, Governor Badaru warned that the new variant of coronaVirus known as (Omicron) appears to be more deadly and rapidly spreads.
“With discovery of the new variant of the virus everybody must be serious about the vaccination, while at government level, we will not take it lightly against any person’s refusal in taking the vaccine.
“In Jigawa State, we have designated numbers of health facilities for the vaccination exercise and all necessary measures have been taken into consideration to ensure the vaccines are available and accessible to every one,” he said.
Governor Badaru however, stated that from the commencement of the exercises across the 27 local government areas of the state, between 10,000 to 20,000 people are being vaccinated daily.
Badaru maintained that, their target is to vaccinate 25,000 people daily, calling on local government chairmen and stakeholders to mobilize the general public to receive the vaccination.
In his speech, the Permanent Secretary Jigawa State Ministry of Health, Dr. Salisu Muazu said that from the commencement of the vaccination exercise to date, about 340,000 were vaccinated across the state.
He said the exercise is going on smoothly and they are targeting 3.8 million people for within the next two years.
He expressed satisfaction with public compliance and the support they are receiving from the Federal Ministry of Health, which he described as very encouraging in the fight against the Novel coronavirus.
