The Olubadan-in-Council Wednesdayday declared that the Eze Ndigbo title is no longer recognised in Ibadanland and also announced the immediate suspension of the Onido of Ido, Chief Tajudeen Akinola Agura.
Briefing journalists at the end of a meeting of the council held at the Popoyemoja palace of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola declared that as from now, all Igbo leaders in Ibadanland are to be reporting directly to the Baale Ekotedo.
High Chief Ajibola noted that as far the council was concerned, there can never be two kings within Ibadanland, saying, no other person can bear his royal majesty in Olubadan domain.
“The only Oba in Ibadanland is our Royal Highness Oba Saliu Adetunji. So, no other person can call himself his royal highness in Ibadan. This is because we have three levels in the traditional chieftaincy system in Ibadanland. We have the Olubadan, his High Chiefs and we have the Baales. Any other person comporting himself in form of royal highnesses is a counterfeit,” he said.
High Chief Ajibola added, “so, Royal Ndigbo or any clubs, association or their heads comes under the Baale in their respective domain. So, if you say Eze Ndigbo or what, you come under the Baale Ekotedo. So anything they have to do, they cannot come to the Kabiyesi directly. The Olubadan has somebody representing him”.
He maintained that going by the traditional set up in Ibadanland which still stand till today, “any other person that want to be a leader  must come under a Baale, hence the Eze  Ndigbo comes under the rulership of Baale of Ekotedo who reports to Olubadan or Olubadan-in-Council in return.
“We don’t want to know whatever they are called. They are not our Baales. We don’t recognise them. If you have a club or association and they have their leaders, their leaders come under the authority of our Ibadan here. If they live in Ibadan and you want to trade or whatever, we bless them but they must come under our Baale. That is what we are saying.”
On the suspension of the Onido, High Chief Ajibola declared that the action was as a result of the on going investigation by the Olubadan in council on the allegations against the suspended Baale.
The meeting was attended by HIgh Chief Lekan Balogun, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, High Chiefs Olufemi Olaifa, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola and the Iyalode of Ibadan, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun.
