The prolonged leadership crisis rocking the Igbo community in Ibadan took a new twist Friday as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji endorsed Chief Alloy Obi as the Balogun Ndigbo of Ibadanland.
Oba Adetunjji while endorsing the Balogun Ndigbo at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace, warned that henceforth, nobody should parade himself as the leader of Igbos in Ibadanland or Eze Ndigbo.
The royal father who declared that he would not hesitate to call for the arrest of such a person parading himself as the leader of Igbos in Ibadanland or Eze Ndigbo, asked the entire Igbos in Ibadanland and in the entire Oyo State to bury the hatchet and support their leader, saying, “there is no more room for Eze Ndigbo title in Ibadanland”.
Oba Adetunji stressed that the endorsement of the Balogun Ndigbo should not come as a surprise given his contributions to the development of Ibadan and that he gave his approval because Chief Obi was presented to him by the Igbo stakeholders.
“With my blessing, from today Alloy Obi has become the leader of all the Igbos in Ibadanland, thus putting an end to the leadership crisis which has been raging for sometime now. What I am doing today is just to give approval to what my predecessors did by conferring the title of Balogun Ndigbo on him.
“Let me however say that it has now become an offence for any other person to parade himself as the leader of the Igbos in Ibadanland. Whoever dare to do this will be going against my authority and I promise that such a person will face the full wrath of the law” he said.
Oba Adetunji however advised Obi to extend hands of fellowship to all Igbos in Ibadanland as a leader can only succeed by operating an open door policy as father to all.
Speaking, the new Balogun Ndigbo said as the leader of the Igbos in Ibadanland, he would not disappoint the Olubadan, the Olubadan-In-Council and the generality of the Igbos.
Chief Obi while assuring the Olubadan that the Igbos are now prepared more than ever to continue to contribute to the development of Ibadanland, lauded him for brokering peace among the Igbos in Ibadanland with his endorsement
