Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State weekend declared that Olubadan of Ibadan deserved a befitting palace.
The governor who said this at the grand finale of Ibadan cultural festival held at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan said “the entire Ibadan indigenes could not raise the N400million fund needed for the befitting palace is a thing of shame.”
According to him, the non completion of the multi-million naira Olubadan Palace project currently under construction for the traditional ruler despite effort to raise N400million for the project was not encouraging enough.
“I know of some towns that are too small in the country, but the palaces of their kings are far more befitting. Yet these towns are not up to a quarter of Ibadan. So, I am challenging all of you to donate towards the realisation of the N400million to ensure that Ibadan build a befitting palace for our monarch,” he said.
Governor Ajimobi while commending the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes  and other Ibadan organisations for this year’s  event urged Ibadan indigenes to donate generously for the completion of the Olubadan palace .
Speaking further, the governor charged Ibadan indigenes to join hands with government to fight against corruption, poverty and thuggery and blood shed, saying that “development could only be achieved if the city is peaceful and clean.
“We need to foster trade and commerce by investing in the cleanliness of Ibadan . We need to join hands together to build a clean environment”.
The governor added that the massive road construction in different parts of the state was to attract investors and commerce to develop the city.
