Barely few days after former Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo testimonial match President General of Nigeria Football supporters club, Rafiu Oladipo has enjoined Nigerian players to go extra mile in bringing the lost glory through their individuals skills as well as commitment.
He exclusively told NNsports in Port Harcourt shortly after the Yobo testimonial match last Friday that the current crop of players who wear the national colors would have to be more committed if they are to win laurels like national team players of old.
“Majority of players who have played recently for the national team have not been as dedicated as players of the past.
“When you look at our football, you would discover that no Nigerian has won the African Footballer of the Year award in the last ten years which do not augur well for our football” explained OLadipo.
He further stressed that in the past we had Kanu Nwankwo, Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amunike, and Victor Ikpeba winning the award because those were the days when Nigerian players were giving their best.
“But today, how many of them can we say deserves to win the African player of the year award. So, Nigerian players must wake from their slumber and start doing well” he stressed.
On Yobo’s services to the nation, he described him as a dependable player in his playing days, a trait he said saw him become the Super Eagles captain and also the first player to have 101 caps for the country.
“For me and my members, Joseph Yobo has done well and deserves commendation.
As he was outstanding and dependable during his good days, as a captain, having given all his best in the service of the nation with his over hundred caps.
“Nothing more befitting than celebrating one who had given his 100 percent services to country football in general. Honestly the honour /ceremonial done the former International player was necessary” he noted.
