Irate okada riders of Hausa extraction have reportedly mobbed a senior police officer to death in Lagos over enforcement of restriction order by the police.
The were said to have also set ablaze a police patrol vehicle during a clash that ensued during enforcement operation.
The incident was said to have occurred at the Ajao Estate entrance gate axis of the Lagos Airport road at about 4.00pm.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the deceased senior officer identified as Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kazeem Abonde was until his death in charge of B Ops of the command.
He was said to have led a team of enforcement operatives from the command to enforce the State Traffic Law, which banned the operation of motorcycles on that routes and other restricted areas in the state.
As learnt, the irate okada riders had resisted arrest and the impoundment of their bikes, while wielding dangerous weapons.
The assailants, who out numbered the policemen, were said to have launched an attack on them, forcing the policemen to beat a retreat and abandoned the said senior officer.
He was said to have been matcheted severally on the fore head, bleeded profusely before giving up the ghost.
Efforts to get the reaction of the police public relations officer CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu on the incident proved abortive as he didn’t respond to calls and text messages.
