The Ogun State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OGSACA) has begun the second round of Community Based Integrated Screening and HIV Services (CBISHS) across the State.
The CBISHS programme affords the public the opportunity to undergo a general medical checkup at no financial cost and ensure that people are not only aware of their HIV status but also their general health status.
OGSACA Prevention Team Lead, Dr. Olufemi Akinwande, speaking in Ijebu-Ode stated that the maiden edition of the programme was held last year across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
Dr. Akinwande added that there was need for the continuation of the CBISHS programme so that the health services being rendered to the people could go round.
“It was impossible to reach out to more than 200 people in each Local Government last year with the number of counselors/testers available for the programme. This was why it became necessary to repeat the programme so that we could reach out to those who did not benefit from it last year’’, Akinwande said.
He explained that although the programme was being replicated in all the Local Government Areas, efforts were made to ensure that different venues were used.
Also speaking, the Local Action Committee on AIDs (LACA) Manager, Ijebu-Ode LGA, Mrs Modupe Ogunbanwo, stated that although people within the area were more disposed to HIV counseling and testing, the inclusion of other services such as blood sugar screening and blood pressure monitoring had prompted a larger turn-out at the programme.
Mrs. Ogunbanwo expressed optimism of a better healthy living condition for the people of the State if the programme is sustained.
One of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mr. Yusuf Ogundare, lauded the efforts of Government in bringing health services closer to the people.
