Obi tasks churches on responsibilities

GOVERNOR Peter Obi has tasked the Church to take the responsibility of redirecting the political class to check its excesses.
Governor Obi was speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Executive Committee meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria at the Women Development Centre, Awka.
The governor said there should be functional partnership between the government and the church to re-launch the country on the path of sustainable development.
He explained that while the government should concentrate on policy formation and supervision, the church should assist in execution of projects and programmes.
Governor Obi urged the church to champion the fight against criminality in the country and help to discourage unbridled acquisition of material wealth by few individuals at the expense of the masses.
The governor charged Nigerians to speak out against the use of violence to pursue individual group interest while calling for a launching of fund to support Christians affected by the Boko Haram violence in the North.
The National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Orisejafor commended Governor Obi’s sense of patriotism humility and team spirit, noting that apart from efforts at reinventing the part to functional growth of the polity, the Governor has restored power to the people and has maintained unity, equity and fairness in the distribution of amenities.

He urged Southern governors to prevail on Northern governors to take more proactive measures to protect residents of their states.
