NYSC To Mobilise 350,000 For Service In 2017

In furtherance to solving the lingering backlog of graduates
who qualify for national service, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set to mobilize no fewer than 350,000
graduates in the country for the scheme in 2017.

It also seeks to establish six skill acquisition centres in each geo-political zone of the country to empower the youths
for self-employment and entrepreneurship.
The Director General of theb NYSC, Brig. Gen. Suleiman Zakari Kazaure disclosed this during the weekend in an interview with newsmen in Katsina shortly after visiting the
two separate camps for the 5000 Corps Members in 2016 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two deployed to the state.
He said: “We are planning to establish skill acquisition centres in the six geo-political zones. We have one in Ekiti and by next week another one is coming up in Gombe state.”
Kazaure, who noted that the scheme had been collaborating
with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for corps members to
assess startup capital, called on graduates to forget non-existing white collar jobs and embrace self-employment.
Addressing the Corps Members at M. D. Yusuf Complex, the
NYSC boss charged them take advantage of entrepreneurship development program of the scheme to create jobs for themselves and others. The director-general, who commended the tight security in both camps however apologized over the inadequacies he observed in their meals and water supply in that camp.
“My children, let me start with apology because I am not happy with what I have seen concerning your lunch. It will not repeat itself,” he assured.
