By; Ojo Shola, Kaduna
Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai has said that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) remained a beacon of hope in the country’s mission for a united nation.
El-Rufai, stated this while declaring open the 2015 batch ‘C’ stream I orientation course for the 2,439 deployed to Kaduna for national service at the state’s permanent orientation camp, kilometer 16 Kaduna-Abuja on Friday. He added that the scheme has exposed millions of youths to the cultures and traditions of the nation’s pluralistic society, as well as impacting skills and experiences to enhance already acquired knowledge while in school.
Represented by Commissioner of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr. Daniel Dan-Auta, the governor expressed optimism that the Corps Members will at the end the day do the country proud through their active involvement in national integration and unity.
“As the Governor of the state, I am indeed proud of the progressive relationship between my administration and the youths of the state.
“My administration will continue to recognize, the strength and vision of our youths, and we have set out to work with urgency, to help them define their path,” El-Rufai explained.
He however reiterated the commitment of his administration to continually support and encourage Corps Members by fulfilling its statutory obligations to the scheme and providing a peaceful atmosphere for their optimal performance wherever they are in the state.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mohammed Momoh, reminded the Corps Members and the invited guests that the orientation course remains a fundamental aspect of the NYSC programme, meant to prepare Corps Members for the service year.
“This is the first of the four cardinal point of NYSC. The Corps Members will go through leadership training, paramilitary drills and self defense training.
“The Corps Members will undergo vocational and entrepreneurship training to enable them become job creators instead of job seekers at the end of their service”.
He expressed gratitude to the state government and good people of the state for the support and healthy relationship the scheme has been enjoying in the state.
Momoh urged the Corps Members to take all the orientation trainings serious, especially language and tradition course to enable them adapt as quick as possible to their immediate host community.
