Prospective Corps Members who cannot afford to pay the N3, 000 fee for online registration or have problems in accessing the portal of the National Youth Service Corps [NYSC] to enter their data have been advised to go back to their respective schools and register manually.
Bauchi state coordinator of the scheme, Musa Abubakar gave the advice a day to the closing of the registration during an interview with newsmen in Bauchi while reacting to a protest against the newly introduced online registration by prospective corps members from various institutions in the state over networks and other problems associated with it.
He said that online registration was introduced to make things easy for the potential NYSC members especially those who reside outside the states where their schools are located so that they would be mobilized and receive call up letters directly through their email addresses thereby saving the costs of transportation to the schools and back to their states of origin.
Abubakar however said that any graduate that is not willing to register online could submit his credentials and personal data to the students affairs officer of his institution who would forward same to the NYSC headquarters and collect mobilization letters on their behalf.
He disclosed that about 300, 000 graduates across the country were due for mobilization by the scheme this year which was why their portal does not open fast as a result of the number of persons accessing it.
The Bauchi NYSC coordinator therefore urged the potential corpers who have challenges with the websites to either visit any NYSC office to register or go back to their respective universities and polytechnics for manual registration.
It would be recalled that some prospective batch B corps members had in a press statement signed by their spokesman, Bilyaminu Hassan Jambil in Bauchi Friday alleged that many of them who encountered problems during the online registration were asked to submit copies of their primary, secondary and WAEC certificates even as NECO and NABTEB certificates were rejected.
”Our questions are as follows; does it mean you must have a WAEC certificate before you will be mobilized for NYSC? Does it mean NECO and NABTEB are no longer relevant? What is the way forward? How long our issues could be solved”, they queried.
The prospective Corps Members who also stage a protest to NUJ press center Bauchi, weekend, said, “We are protesting to voice out our grievances over the ongoing NYSC 2016 Batch B registration issue that leads to stalemate in our expectations for the 2016 mobilization”.
