At the first NEC meeting of  Nigeria Union  of Journalists (NUJ) for  year 2016 hosted by the
Lagos Council  at the weekend, the Chairman of Ogun  State Council, Mr Wole Shokunbi and the Council Treasurer Mrs Modupeola Sobukola were suspended for gross indiscipline and disrespect to the office of the national President of the union.
Suspended along side the duo were Mr Daud Olatunji of  Vanguard newspaper and Mr Wale Oluokun of Federal radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) who on the 9th March this year conducted themselves in a rudely manner before the President Waheed Odusile who has gone to Abeokuta for a visit.
While addressing members and stressing on the need for them to be paying their check off dues, the trio of Mrs Shobukola, Mr Olatinji  and Mr Oluokun were busy shouting at the President while the Chairman kept watching them deltiberately and unchecked suggesting a preplanned attack.

It would be re called that the national body of the NUJ had quarried the Council Chairman demanding for the unremitted check off dues of about four million naira in which the Chairman personally demanded for a panel to investigate him in his reply to the quarry.

However, while setting up the  committee to investigate what would was responsible for the alleged non payment of dues by members of Ogun NUJ Council, the Chairman’s supporters started shouting aimed at disrupting the sitting and passing uncomplimentary words .
The incident was reported at the NEC meeting and it was considered as disrespect to the office of the President and thus suspended the Chairman and three of his men to avoid a bad precedent.
In a related incident, Mr Michael Olarewaju, Oguntunyi Sunday, Wasiu Ajadosu and Yinka Kolawole were suspended indefinitely for taking the Union to Court in Osun State without first exhausting internal mechanisms of settling dispute in the union.
Meanwhile, the meeting took a critical look at the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last eleven months and expressed dismay at the hardship being presently faced by Nigerians with regards to the lingering fuel scarcity, and urged the government to rise to the occasion and ensure that the problem is resolved.
The NEC however commended the adminstration for her efforts on the ongoing war against graft, to rid the country of corruption and urged journalists across the country to be part of the crusade by ensuring that no corrupt person enjoys media protection.
