As Nigeria’s year 2023 General Elections gathers momentum, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council has called on politicians to play by the rules of the game and see politics as not a do-or-die affair, but as a competition.
The Union urged the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to intervene fast to avert the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
It implored the government to fulfill the agreement it signed with ASUU in order to halt incessant industrial actions by the university teachers.
The Union expressed dismay over how bad petroleum products found their way into the country when some government agencies have been saddled with product inspection.
“The Union sympathised with Nigerians whose vehicles had been damaged by the bad petroleum products. It, however, urged the government to fish out those who masterminded the inflow of the products into the country,” the Lagos-based journalists wrote in a communique issued at the end of its February 2022 congress.
In the document signed by Vera Chukwumerije, Gboyega Oni and Uche Eletuo, NUJ Lagos Councilkicked against the several billions of Naira which the government is planning to use for the clean- up of the bad fuel, and advised that such huge amount should be channelled towards meeting the demands of ASUU.
