Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna State Council is organising a retreat on information system and media reportage for hajj information managers in partnership with the Independent Hajj Reporters.
A statement signed by the Chairman of NUJ, Kaduna State council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf and the National Coordinator of Independent Hajj Reporters, Ibrahim Muhammed on Sunday said the retreat is targeted at top management officials of various service providers in the hajj subsector.
“The challenges of developing the capacity of Hajj information managers on ethics in Hajj reportage, and the imperative of having a central information dissemination mechanism during Hajj operations need to be urgently addressed,” the statement said.
They said that “timely dissemination of information has become imperative in the management of flow of information during hajj operations. There are needs for hajj information stakeholders and service providers to separate the concept of Needs to Know and the Right to know.”
“It is in view of the these parameters that Independent Hajj Reporters (an NGO that monitors and reports hajj activities in Nigeria and in Saudi Arabia) partners with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ –Kaduna State Council to organize Top Management Retreat on Hajj information system and media reportage for hajj information managers and hajj service providers,” the statement said.
The retreat is expected to address the challenges in hajj information systems & media reportage, provide impetus for effective information management systems, accurate impact analysis, efficient data management approach and objective and accurate media reportage, in all ramifications for the benefit of Nigerian pilgrims.
The statement said that Hajj information managers, public relation officers of States Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Boards and agencies, Hajj service providers’ image makers, reporters/correspondent covering hajj activities at states and NAHCON, Hajj NGOs are expected to benefits from the retreat.
