NUBASS new National President Cigari decries non payment of scholarships

Newly elected National President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Nasiru Nuhu Cigari has expressed dismay that majority of the state students did not enjoy last year’s scholarship allowance paid by the government.
According to him, less than 40 percent of the students enjoyed government scholarship allowance last, saying it is not a sincere payment but a  mere political exercise in order to please some people that government has paid scholarship allowance to state students.
Cigari, who was speaking shortly after his emergence as the duly elected NUBASS National President weekend, said the union will soon sit with the Special Assistant to the State Governor on Students Affairs, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo to table their problems for solutions by the government.
“We will table our problems before him, he is the Liaison Officer between the government and Bauchi state students, if there is nothing worth telling we will directly confront the government, and if there is also nothing tangible we can call the educational stakeholders to tell the government about the students’ needs”.
Comrade Nasiru Cigari also appealed to the Bauchi state government to steer clear of students’ affairs especially as regard their union’s conduct of elections, saying the students have all their fates in their hands and could not accept intruding or imposition of candidates in the union’s leadership.
Cigari also advised his congressmen and women to always remain peaceful and support good policies of the government, stressing that students should only go against any policy of the government that goes contrary to their majority wishes.
Comrade Nasiru Cigari polled 270 votes to emerge National President of NUBASS to beat his opponent, Mukhtar Adam who scored 24 votes in the elections held at the Baba Sidi Primary School, Bauchi.
Also in the elections, Misbahu Ibrahim emerged the Vice President of the union by scoring 267 votes against his opponent,Ali Magaji Guyaba who had 18 votes.
Abubakar Salihu was elected Secretary General of the union with 211 votes to beat Yusuf Yusuf Yakubu who has 89 votes, while the post of Assistant Secretary General went Atiku Isah with 153 votes against Buhari Madaki who polled 140 votes.
The post of Financial Secretary goes to Nathaniel Daniel Shermi with 240 votes to beat Ali Magaji Gabarin with 46 votes, as Muhammad Waziri Gololo bagged the post of Public Relations Officer of the union with 157 votes to run over Goje Abubakar and Muhammad Kabir with 84 and 44 votes respectively.
