National Teachers Institute (NTI) over the weekend matriculated over forty thousand students nationwide for this year’s academic session.
Speaking during the matriculation ceremony held at the Institutes headquarters in Kaduna, the ‎Director General Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu said he is delighted to discover such a large number of admitted students despite the ranging competition for students among tertiary institutions.
According to him, the institute matriculated 14, 807 Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), 19, 878 National Certificate in Education (NCE), and 6,051 Bachelor’s Degree Programmes, totaling 40,738.
Dr. Sharehu inform the gathering that the number of students offered admission for the year is a proof that many Nigerians, who are mostly workers can actually continue with their education through distance education system, providing them the opportunity to continue with their gainful ventures without hindrance.
He clarified that only students that have registered for tuition, examination, computer tablets, research project, teaching practice, carryover, as the case may be, can enjoy the service the institutes has to offer.
He added that, “the physical separation between the teachers and the learner is often cited as the most important characteristic of distance education, the institute pays high premium on the flow of authentic and up to date information to all its stakeholders especially new students and new course facilitators.
“Students that fail to register on time may have to pay extra which is avoidable. I wish to enjoin students and their sponsors to ensure that registration is given maximum attention.
“Matriculating students must take their studies very seriously. You are to use the best study technique. The 300 Level in the Bachelor’s Degree Programme will be having computer tablets before the end of the session”.
A week-long programme, which covered sensitization, orientation, induction and programme monitoring, was put together to raise the knowledge of the new intakes and familiarized them with rules and regulations guiding the institutes programmes.
