NSCDC Apprehends 12 Suspects Over Oil Pipeline Vandalism, Possession Of Large Quantities Of Illicit Drugs

Nemesis has caught up with 12 suspected economic saboteurs following their arrest by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos in connection with oil pipeline vandalisation and possession of large quantities of illicit drugs.

All the suspects were reportedly apprehended by operatives attached to the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Lagos State Command of the Corps.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that seven out of the suspects were nabbed with illegally possessed Automative Gas Oil popularly known as Diesel, while the others were arrested with the hard drugs.

The spokesperson of the Lagos Command of the Corps DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun, who confirmed the breakthrough, disclosed that all the suspects have been transferred to the state headquarters for further investigations.

While giving the breakdown of the arrest, he said, “On Friday, 27th January, 2023, at about 8:13am the Anti-Vandal team arrested two suspects on board a short Mark Tanker with registration number T – 1401LA loaded with suspected adulterated AGO also known as diesel, along Lekki – Ikate road, in Lekki axis of the State.

” In another operation, on Sunday, 29th January, 2023, at about 21:45hrs, the Marine team of the Unit also made arrest of five ( 5 ) suspects, who were paddling a boat loaded with yet unquantified litres of suspected adulterated AGO, at CMS Water ways axis of the State.

” Furthermore, in another development, on Monday, 30th January, 2023, at about 03:00hrs at wee hours, the aforementioned team, who were on routine surveillance and patrol, intercepted two ( 2 ) boats loaded with fifty four bags of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp and arrested five ( 5 ) suspects connected to the crime, at the Ijora water ways axis of Lagos.

“:The twelve ( 12 ) suspects have since been brought to the Command for further interogation and investigation on the matters, being presently handled, by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the Command”.

Abolurin stated that the breakthrough was in line with the renewed and re – invigorated efforts of the new State Commandant Usman Ishaq Alfadarai against oil pipeline vandalism, illegal dealings in petroleum products, economic sabotage and other forms of criminalities in the State.

While applauding the excellent and gallant performance of the operatives, the Commandant Alfadarai seized the occasion to further reiterate the Command’s readiness and commitment to ensuring a zero tolerance against oil pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminality in the State.

He further assured the government and the good people of Lagos State of his unflinching commitment and dedication towards sustaining the already established peace and security in the State.

Alfadarai promised that the Corps will continue to work assiduously and laboriously, with the Government and other security services or agencies and stakeholders in the state, to further proffer solutions to any form of security challenges that may want to raise their ugly heads, especially now that the general election is around the corner.
