NRC to commence lifting of Coal from Benue to Rivers

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will commence lifting of coal from Igunmale in Benue State to Port Hacourt.
The Managing Director of the Corporation Engineer First Okhiria disclosed this in his maiden press conference.
According to him, the trust of his management are two; to help the Federal Government achieve its aim of providing efficient and modern rail transport system and to open up more rural communities to boost the nations economy.
The second aim is to improve the efficiency of train operations.
Okhiria said the growth and development of Nigeria economy is dependent on availability of the rail transport mode.
“And that leads to another responsibility of providing professional advice to the Federal Government to link production or industrial areas by rail.”
He said with the resuscitation of Enugu coal minning, other related industries will come alive and they require train services to either move in or move out their raw materials and their factory products.
He said that the corporation is currently reorganizing its seven districts, adding that “very soon Mass Transit Train Services will soon commence in all the seven districts spread across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He said where security situation may not allow full scale operation like North East, arrangements have been concluded with Ashaka cement to commence lifting cements from their factory to nearest and safe areas.
He advised workers to brace up for the challenges. He expressed gratitude to them for expressing their readiness to support him achieve team aims and objectives
