Northern Governors to visitWashington soon

The nineteen Northern State Governors are to visit Washington soon, on the invitation of the United States Instituted of Peace to discuss challenges facing the region and find a way forward.
Johnie Carson, former Assistant Secretary of State, African Affairs made this disclosure in Kaduna.
Speaking as a delegate of the team that visited Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, Carson said eighteen months ago, the Institute invited the Governors to United State but fifteen of them attended.
He stressed that the governors had sessions with staff of the Secretary of State, top American diplomats and technocrats, as well as the Institute best brains and discussed how other countries tackled challenges such as Nigeria faces.
He said the current Governors of the North are billed to have same engagement as re-initiated by the Institute for them to have serious and beneficial interactions with U.S administrators.
He assured that the Institute will such interactions from Nigeria but hoped they will have programmes in Northern Nigeria. He said they have gotten the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to move on with the programme.
“There is a lot to be learn and a lot to be shared by USIP with the nineteen Northern State Governors and Nigeria which is a very important country” he assured.
Mr Carson is a Senior Adviser to Nancy Lindborg, President of United States Institute for peace (USIP).
