The Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), an umbrella body of over 115 Community Base, Sociocultural and Economically inclined Northern Organization’s  has said that it supports the federal government’s decision to establish naval base in the Kano, north west region of Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement signed by its President. Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, dated September 14, 2021.

“The Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) is solidly in support of the move by the Buhari administration.
“The movement believes that, this will go along way to improve the fight against insurgency, and other criminal activities in the region and nation at large,” it said.
The Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) commended and supported the present leadership of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Z Gambo, especially for the bold step he takes to fight bunkering and other criminal activities in the Niger Delta area as this will no doubt help to move the nation’s economy and provide job opportunities to our teeming Nigerian youths, there by also, helping to improve peace and stability in the country.
“However, there’s no gain saying that since his appointment as Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal  has demonstrated leadership qualities by embarking on an aggressive but technical reach out to all stakeholders in Maritime sector with the view of ensuring synergy between and amongst them.
“Perhaps, the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Auwal Zubairu  Gambo was also engaged in expanding the scope and presence of the Navy across board, as an administrator per excellence and professional intelligent soldier he knew very well that, today’s Navy needed to be upgraded to the standard of other Navy across the World and for those who are trying to find fault in the present standardization and upgrading of the Navy are not just short sighted but crude.
“Therefore, Nigeria as the most populous black nation in the world needs a Navy and armed forces that is world standard. Instead of castigating the Naval Chief, he should be celebrated for moving the Navy to the world standard that can compete with counterpart anywhere in the world,” the statement said.
