Northeast Youth Progressives Movement, a political pressure group has counseled the national Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Modu Sherriff to honorably resign in the interest of the party and the nation’s nascent democracy.
The Movement Chairman, Comrade Maina Bukar told the press in Bauchi Monday that they have given Sherriff up to Thursday this week to vacate the seat or face a mass rally in protest by the zonal youth to Wadata House in Abuja to forcibly eject him from the chairmanship of the party.
Maina, also advised the embattled Modu Sherriff to toe the path of honour by defending the allegation labeled against him by an Australian, Steve David for being sympathetic to the dreaded Boko Haram sect that inflicted casualties on Northern Nigeria, particularly the North East sub-region.
“We have given Ali Modu Sherriff an ultimatum of up to Thursday this week to honorably resign his seat as acting chairman of the PDP, failure of which we will stage a protest mass rally to block him from further entering the national secretariat of the party, the Wadata House in Abuja”.
Comrade Maina Bukar recalled that credible stakeholders of the PDP have labored enough to lead the party to fruition and would not allow people such as Modu Sherriff to hijack the party. He described as reputable on the African continent.
“Mr. Steve David was not under duress when he implicated Modu Sherriff in the Boko Haram saga in which over 30, 000 persons were massacred and properties worth trillions of naira destroyed in the Northeast sub-region”, Maina frowned.
He therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a body that could investigate the alleged involvement of Modu Sherriff in the Boko Haram insurgency, stressing that Sherriff has definitely a case to answer.
The Movement Chairman attributed the incompetence of Modu Sherriff in governance as the then Governor of Bormo state that culminated in the uprise of Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri, the state capital in 2009.
Northeast youth Movement which lends credence to PDP chieftains, the likes of Professor Jerry Gana, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Senator Nasiru Ibrahim Mantu, and Shehu Musa Gabam, among others, noted that Modu Sherriff will take the party to nowhere.
