The New Dawn Forum (NDF) in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has declared that “APC is a mega party that nobody can claim its ownership”.
NDF Chairman and Secretary, Chief Rasheed Babalola and Hon. Jaiye Ayilara said this at a press conference in Ibadan during which they raised the alarm of an alleged plans by some elements in the party to hijack the party from the loyal members.
Specifically, they added that “it is not a hidden fact that some people are trying to hijack the party”.
The NDF leaders pointed out that there is the need for calm among the aspirants and leaders of APC especially in Oyo state on the pending local government polls in the state.
According to Chief Rasheed Babalola and Hon. Jaiye Ayilara,it was glaring that if the primary election for the planned LG polls was held, it would have led to crisis due to the fact that some leaders have concluded plans to cause problems within the party.
“We want to appeal to all aspirants and all loyal members of the party to give peace a chance and give room for consensus exercise to prevail; to save this great party from being torn apart by the so-called set of people claiming the ownership of this party. Whereas, All Progressives Congress (APC), is a mega party that nobody can claim its ownership”they said.
The group then lauded Governor Abiola Ajimobi for the postponement of the APC primaries following pending court injunction and to avoid crisis in the state, adding that the governor in his wisdom saved the party from being torn when he call for the postponement of the primaries at a meeting he had with aspirants of the party last week.
Alleging further that some APC stalwarts in Oyo state have concluded plans to cut the loyal members out of the party, they added that the forum’s aim and objective “is to advice the party to ensure unity and progress as they posited that the group is a self-funded that has members in all the 33 local government areas of the state”.
“By the grace of God we are saying that the election will hold in a peaceful atmosphere. We unanimously support his excellency for his boldness to stand on his feet as a role model leader of the party and chief security officer of the state. We use this privileged to appeal to his excellency not to relent on his efforts to sanitise this party in order for it to reflect the motto of the party “unity and progress” and to ensure that a peaceful and credible local government election hold as soon as possible”.
