As means of creating awareness, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) would today hold a one day awareness campaign.
The campaign is targeted at achieving a synergy with the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria (NURTWN) on traffic management on our roads.
This was disclosed at a campaign organized by the NOA at the Kawo motor park in Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna State.
In his keynote address at the occasion, the Director General of NOA, Dr. Garba Abari stressed that road users, particularly commercial drivers are in the habit of ignoring traffic rules and regulations in the country, despite rules and regulations on safety and traffic management which have been in place since colonial days.
He said, it is road users’ attitude on the road that can make the difference between safety and accidents, hence the need to continue to remind road users on the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations, so as to reduce the perpetual carnage on the roads.
Dr Abari lamented that it is the actions and inactions of both the law enforcement agents and the road users that impedes the proper enforcement of the law, particularly the prevalence of under age drivers, drunk drivers among others, “the corrupt tendencies of road users and the collaborator from traffic management officials encourage these unwholesome practices” he said.
“The NOA on our part will not relent in discharging our mandate of sensitizing and enlightening the general public on core values and positive attitudinal change.
“I will like to assure all traffic managers that NOA is always prepared to support and assist them in the onerous task of maintaining safety ‎on our roads”.
Also speaking, the general manager KASTELEA, Colonel Ahmed Zubairu (rtd) also reiterated the commitment of the agency under his watch not to leave any stone unturned to ensure safet‎y on Kaduna roads and equally ensure that traffic and environmental rules and regulations are strictly adhered to.
He informed that so far, the agency used over 40 days to sensitize road users on their activities, stressing that every erring road users will ‎be adequately brought to book in accordance to the acts establishing the agency.
On their part, Salisu Galadunchi from the FRSC, said, the establishment of KASTELEA will in no small measure compliment their efforts, urging road users to abide by the rules and regulations of the road, ensuring all their papers are upto date and their vehicles road worthy to avoid any embarrasment.
Responding, the NURTW Kaduna State Chairman, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Bala assured that their members have on a regular basis been cautioned at ensuring that they abide by the rules guiding road usage.
He ‎promised that their members will be law abiding now and always.
