The new Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has maintained that there is no stalemate in admission of fresh students into various institutions of learning across the country.
He made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen during his visit to Zonal Office of JAMB in Benin City, Edo State.
Prof. Oloyede stated that after due consultations with the Senate, House of Representatives, stakeholders and the various regulatory bodies in the education sector, it was resolved that there should not be further written examinations before admitting students who have qualified into higher institutions of learning.
He said: “I know many of you are bothered about what appeared to you as stalemate on admission. There is no stalemate. After due consultations with the Senate, after due consultations with the House of Reps because we have been invited and they are also worried, and after due consultations with all the regulatory agencies, NBTE, NCCE, NUC and JAMB itself, we have resolved the matter totally.
“There is no ambiguity about what will happen. As it has been announced by the Honourable Minister for Education, there will be no written examinations. No written Post UTME examination by any institutions.
“Apart from that (cancellation of Post UTME), every other issue remains as it used to be because the autonomy of the academic board and senate of the respective institutions remain sacrosanct. They should determine their criteria following the directives of the federal executive council to federal universities about what should be merit? What should be catchment area? What should be EDS? Every other thing remains as it used to be.
“The only addition this year, is for now, there should be no written Post UTME examination. Apart from that, every Senate, every academic board should determine its own admission policies”, he added.
Prof. Oloyede however assured that JAMB would be fair to all and also avoid the exploitation of the various prospective students of institutions of learning across the country.
