The Benue State Government has denied reports making the rounds that a commissioner from the state was arrested in China.
This was contained in a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Terver Akase
“We wish to urge Benue people to disregard the falsehood being peddled on social media by members of the opposition that a Benue commissioner has been arrested in China.
“Nothing of the sort happened in Guangzhou where the First Nigeria-China Governors’ Investment Forum is currently taking place or in any other part of China,” it said.
It explained that Governor Samuel Ortom is accompanied to the Forum by only two commissioners, Professor Dennis Ityavyar of Education, Science and Technology and Dr Tersoo Kpelai of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment who have participated fully in all activities at the summit since their arrival on Wednesday.
“It is unfortunate that instead of focusing on constructive and purposeful ways of engaging the present administration, the opposition party in Benue State has resorted to blatant lies and cheap blackmail.
“The said story is a figment of the reporter’s imagination and should accordingly be dismissed,” it noted.
