Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology ( NITT) Zaria is expected to host over 3,000 sportsmen and women at the 2015 Research Institute Games (RIGAN) tagged “Let’s Go Zazzau – NITT 2015” expected to hold between November 28 and December 6, 2015.
National President of RIGAN, Professor Rabi’u Adamu disclosed this at a pre-council meeting held at NITT Zaria Friday.
Adamu enumerated some benefits of the games to include; bringing together research and development institutes through sports and providing recreation, interaction and promoting friendship among members.
According to him, sport is aimed to achieve sound mind and physical fitness for attaining the goals set for research and development institutes as well as publicising research and their respective functions. “This edition is unique because it is coming at a transition year when we are experiencing change in the administration, especially at the Federal level” he stressed.
In his remarks the Chairman, local organising committee (LOC) and NITT Director General, Dr Aminu Musa-Yusuf said the LOC was making concerted efforts to attract sponsorship from other reputable organisations and agencies.
Yusuf said the competition would feature 14 events; indoor and outdoor. He explained that all indoor games would take place at the NITT with the exception of Badminton and Squash.
He assured that the institute had secured some facilities from sister institutions such Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) and Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC) among others.
