People in Ningi Emirate of Bauchi State have bitterly complained about the total neglect of the emirate by the present All Progressive Congress (APC) administration and past successive governments in the state.
The people under unified 25 civil society organizations from Ningi and Warji Local Government Areas that comprised the emirate specifically accused the present APC administration of lopsidedness in the allocation of development projects for the citizens.
The organizations led by Ningi Grassroots Development Association chairman, Yusuf Yunusa Ningi cited example with last week’s flagged-off about twenty different roads reconstruction across the state to the exclusion of Ningi emirate.
“Last week, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar flagged-off roads reconstruction in Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Jama’are emirates, but not even a single road was mention for reconstruction in Ningi emirate”, he said
The Association Chairman told a press briefing in Bauchi Wednesday that Ningi emirate produced the 2nd largest number of votes cast in the 2015 elections after Toro to install the now much acclaimed ‘popular’ government in the state.
He therefore appealed to Governor Mohammed Abubakar to reconsider the allocation of roads construction in the state with a view to including Ningi emirate that has most roads in Ningi and Warji Local Government Areas in deplorable condition.
Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa observed that if development projects in the state could be executed in phases, Ningi is supposed to be in the first phase as population wise the emirate is the second after Bauchi.
“In the entire Northeast, Ningi is the third after Maiduguri and Bauchi, and in Northern Nigeria, Ningi stands number 26 in terms of population, so if democracy is for the greatest number of people or voters, Ningi emirate is supposed to be reckoned with”.
Yunusa wondered what criterion was used in the selection of roads in for reconstruction in the five existing emirates in the state, saying their inquiries with the state APC chairman, and commissioner for economic planning as representatives of Ningi emirate in the government as to the neglect of the emirate were nothing to write home about”.
The association chairman stressed the need for the state government to be fair and just not only among the emirates but also the citizens that constitutes the state.
According to him, Ningi as headquarters of the central senatorial district deserves infrastructure such as fire brigade, water board offices, when its people are even suffering from lack of adequate drinking water.
He also recalled that Ningi emirate which has the status of native authority dates back to June 1902 after Ilorin, Bida, Kontagora, Zaria, and Bauchi, ahead of Kano, Sokoto and Katsina but has always been retrogressively retarded by successive past governments in the state.
Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa contented that of the 774 Local Governments in the federation, Ningi emirate has the highest number of votes in the 2015 presidential elections
