Nigerian Railway Raises Hopes On Restoring Abuja-Kaduna Train Operations, Discloses Safety Measures

Management of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has pointed out that the connection of Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) line has been achieved.
“This implies major track components (concrete sleepers and rails) have been completely laid. The south end of the tracks (which was destroyed by the explosion) has been successfully joined with the north end. Track access between Abuja and Kaduna is now restored,” NRC wrote in a statement titled: “Press Release No. 9 5th May 2022.
According to the Corporation, the Technical Team has continued with other track stabilization works, including ballasting, temping, fastening of accessories such as clips, bolts and nuts, as well as welding.
NRC management disclosed that Loco 2502 which was involved in the accident, though not damaged, but trapped at the Rigasa end due to lack of route access has been crossed to the Idu end and taken to the workshop for proper routine maintenance.
In the statement signed by Niyi Alli on behalf of NRC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Engr. Fidet Okhiria, the management said: “As we have mentioned in our earlier releases, the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will resume soon with additional security measures put in place.
“Passengers will be required to provide their NIN (National Identification Number) registration for verification prior to purchasing train tickets. This is for improved passenger profiling and safety on-board.”
The corporation expressed its commitment to the safety of all its passengers and staff on board the ill-fated AK9 train service.
“We will continue to collaborate with security agencies to ensure all persons being held are rescued unhurt and reunited with their families, soonest,” NRC emphasized.
The railway company prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives when the train was attacked. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the ill-fated AK9 train service on 28th March 2022.

The Corporation expressed satisfaction with the support it is receiving from the security agencies, “especially for the security cover availed our officials and staff at the incident site.”
NRC assured the general public that it will continue to issue updates on the latest developments on the train explosion.
