The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai has assured of the effective contributions of the members of Nigerian Armed Forces to peace support operation in Africa and the world over.
He gave the assurance Tuesday at Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre in Jaji, Kaduna during the commissioning of the Medical Centre Annex, saying that the Centre would be effectively utilized and maintained.
The Army Staff who spoke through the Commander, Infantry Corps and Centre, Jaji, Major-General Ahmed Mohammed, said the successful completion of the additional block to the medical centre is a commendable effort in providing quality healthcare to Nigerian Army Personnel that go through the Centre for peace support operation training as well as to the families of the staff of the centre.
He however disclosed that the provision of the additional medical facility was made possible with the assistance of the German Government through the German Technical Assistance Group (GTAG), adding that there were laudable achievements recorded through the collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the German Technical Assistance Group.
The COAS also expressed his profound gratitude to the government of Germany through the German technical Assistance Group for the confidence reposed on the Nigerian Army and called for judicious use of resources as well as imbibing an excellence culture of maintenance.
Earlier, the Germany Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency, Regine Hess has said that the German Government will continue to support and collaborate with Nigerian Army at all times especially in the areas of provision of medical facilities and services to the soldiers, pointing out that the wounded soldiers would no longer be taking to abroad for treatment but would be treated at the Centre.
In his remarks, the Commandant, of the Centre, Brigadier-general Adamu Dauda said that as a United Nations Peace Support Operation Training Centre in the country, there was the need for additional Medical Centre Annex.
“Therefore, the building of an additional block for this medical centre is in line with the aforementioned objective. We are therefore most grateful to the COAS, Lt Gen TY Buratai for the infrastructural changes in the NA and in particular Jaji Cantonment.
“The Medical Centre Annex will ensure that the medical needs of personnel, students on Pre-Deployment Training (PDT), as well as those on individual courses are adequately catered for.”
