The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji on Wednesday asked leaders of the South-South states of Nigeria to prevail on their kith and kins to embrace dialogue.
Oba Adetunji made the call in Ibadan while receiving the Association of South-South States Indigens of Nigeria in Oyo State, (BRACED) led by Chief Michael Obasohan and Urhobo Progressive Union, Ibadan Chapter led by its President, Chief Anigboro into his Popoyemoja, Ibadan.
The royal father maintained that no matter the grouse they might be nursing against the state, there was the need for them to give room for peace by embracing peace.
Oba Adetunji emphasized that “there is no issue – no matter how delicate – that cannot be thrashed out at a round table conference, saying, “as Nigerians from different ethnic groups, we all have one thing or the other that we require from mother Nigeria”.
The Olubadan declared that the Niger Delta Youths by exposing themselves to arms and ammunition sometimes constitute a risky gamble which may blow no one any good.
He commended them for the visit to his palace, saying the people of the South-South in Oyo State are law-abiding and peace-loving people and should long as they continue to go about their duties lawfully, there is no limit to which they could not attain.
Leaders of the group in separate meetings with the Olubadan appreciated the people for being very accommodating and friendly to them, adding that as a result of the love between the Yoruba people and the South-Southerners, there has been an increase in cases of inter-cultural marriages.
