A Zamfara-based Non Governmental Organization (NGO) “Ta’awanul Khairiyya-Voice of Women and Child Initiative” has sensitised women groups in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area on Gender Based Violence (GBV) issues and women’s participation in leadership.
The sensitisation took place in Kaura Namoda town, conducted in collaboration with another NGO Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) had over 100 women participants from Kaura Namoda LGA.
Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of the NGO, Hajiya Shafa’atu Labbo said the sensitisation was aim to increase women’s awareness on dangers associated with GBV.
“This is also to encourage women’s participation in politics and leadership affairs considering that women were left behind in various opportunities especially.
“We believe this program will enhance capacity of our women on reporting GBV cases.
“We invited various resource persons from the security agencies, religious leaders, teachers and health workers to educate the participants on dangers associated with GBV”, She said.
She added that the organization working to protect women and children’s rights against GBV and other violence that became rampant in the society.
“We are working with various organizations to educate and enhance women’s capacity on their rights.
“We decided to take the sensitisation to Kaura Namoda in order to reach out more women from grassroots.
“You know women and children especially in the rural communities faced a lot of challenges.
“Most of them don’t even know their rights, they don’t know how to protect themselves from such dangers.
“We believe this sensitisation will educate women how to report GBV cases, we always encourage women to voice out their problems.
“As NGO we are collaborating with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure justice to GBV cases.
She commended Emir of Kaura Namoda, heads of security agencies in the area such as Police, NSCDC, DSS, Health workers and women groups for participating the event.
The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Ahmad Asha represented by Alhaji Sule Yarima commended the organization for selecting Kaura Namoda for the event.
Ahmad Asha described the event as timely and welcome development, adding that it will enlighten women on dangers associated with GBV.
“I am using this opportunity to called on parents to train and educate their children so that to know much about their rights for them to be prevented from dangers in the society”, he said.
The traditional ruler assured his support to the organization to continue educating women in fight against GBV and other challenges affecting them.
Also speaking, the Vice Principal, School for Continuing Education, Kaura Namoda, Nafisa Muhammad Gado urged women to focus on education.
According to her education is the key for women to participate in to various opportunities in the society.
Hajiya Bushira Muhammad Kaura the Chairperson of Jajurtattun Mata Group of Kaura Namoda called on women to participate in to politics so they can be elected in to various leadership positions.
She said there are various leadership opportunities for women especially when it comes to issue of politics.
