A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Interfaith Mediation Centre, has commenced reconciliation process for aggrieved communities in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa state.
The North East Chairman of the centre, Mallam Abdullahi Damare, made this known Tuesday in Yola.
According to him, Michika was chosen for a one year programme on peace and reconciliation by the centre in-view of the growing ethno religious tension in the area which was aggravated by the Boko Haram insurgency.
“We have visited all the 16 wards in the area and constituted peace committees”, Damare said.
Damare explained that the centre is working in collaboration with other NGOs such as Adamawa Peace Initiative (API).
“We are also enjoying the support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID)” Damare added.
He noted that the response so far received from the affected communities showed that the project would be a success.
“The people are happy with our intervention; some of them are even ready to spend their personal money to ensure it succeed” Damare said.
He explained that the gesture would be extended to other communities in other states in the North East.
