Ahead of the closing ceremony for the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF), the Commissioner of Information Delta State, Aniagwu Charles has vowed that it would be the first of its kind and the next host would need learn from them to sustain the standard.
The Commissioner expressed this at a press briefing held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Monday December 5, 2022.
“What you saw at the opening is a child’s play with what you will see at the closing ceremony. So that the next host would need to come here for lessons,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that Delta State has put up a festival, “that I dare say is the best so far. I want you to come for the closing ceremony we will blow your minds.”
On the performance of Team Delta on the mefals table, he said they remain at the top with over 40 gold medals.
“As at Sunday, on medals table, Delta has no fewer than 43 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze,” he said.
Commenting on an incident that happened on Sunday night when robbers attempted to attack a team returning to the camp from the stadium, he said that the security operatives were equal to the task.
“We provided reasonable security for the festival. When some hoodlums made attempt when athletes we’re heading to Issele Uku, NYSC Orientation Camp, they were equal to the task and none was affected,” he explained.
He commended the athletes, spectators and journalists for the cooperation they have received so far, describing it as outstanding.
“As we speak, we have over 300 journalists covering the festival, it shows that the game is making impact,” he declared.
