Chairman of the Olubadan coronation committee and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun has said Governor Abiola Ajimobi will this Friday 5th March, 2016 present the staff of office to High Chief Saliu Akanmu Adetunji as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Addressing a press conference held at Mapo hall Ibadan on activities lined up for the coronation of the new Olubadan, High Chief Balogun declared that all the South West State Governors and prominent traditional rulers across Nigeria are expected at the coronation.
High Chief Balogun said the presentation of the staff of office is expected to take place at Mapo hall in Ibadan by 10am, adding that about 200 indigenous associations and clubs under the umbrella of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) are to participate in the coronation ceremony.
“The Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, will present the instrument and staff of office to the new Olubadan, marking the appointment of Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Saliu Akanmu Olasupo Adetunji as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.
Speaking further, High Chief Balogun implored citizens and residents of Ibadan to continue to sustain the reigning peace and tranquility in the city during and after the activities lined up for the coronation ceremonies.
“Over 200 indigenous clubs under the aegis of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), all socio-cultural organizations are participating fully in the event which will surely include all the traditional rites and steps typical of the installation. The Olubadan coronation committee hereby implores all and sundry to sustain the prevailing and much adored peace and safety in the state in general, and Ibadanland in particular with the expectation of a very cordial and warm reception for and interaction with our guests as usual”.
On the issue of Seriki line suit, the High Chief declared that as at present, there was no way the Seriki line could stall the planned coronation of High Chief Saliu Adetunji as the new Olubadan.
According to High Chief Balogun, as at present, there was nobody occupying the office of the Seriki of Ibadanland who is capable of being promoted to join either of the two lines to the Olubadan stool from the rank of Ekerin Olubadan, adding that as such, the issue of having a Seriki as the next Olubadan does not arise.
