The Olubadan-Designate, High Chief Saliu Adetunji has hinted that his coronation as the new Olubadan of Ibadan land is to come up on Friday, March 4 this year.
According to a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan-Designate, Alhaji Adeola Oloko and made available to journalists in Ibadan, High Chief Adetunji dropped this hint while receiving the Juju music maestro, Chief Ebenezer Olasupo Obey Fabiyi in his Popoyemoja, Ibadan residence on Saturday.
The Olubadan designate declared that the date was arrived at after extensive consultations with all the necessary stakeholders, adding that the reasons why the coronation had not been held before now was because the late Olubadan Odulana Odugade deserved to be given a befitting burial, which was successfully completed last week.
“Sincerely, the Olubadan-in-Council must not only make, but submit their endorsement of the new Olubadan to His Excellency, the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Then, the Governor must ratify the decision. Once you cross the barrier, you get the date. So, the date is Friday, March 4 at Oja’Ba, Ibadan where the previous Olubadan received their staff of office,” he said.
High Chief Adetunji added “but, Saturday, March 5 is for big reception at a venue that is yet to be decided.”
Earlier in his remark, Chief Ebenezer Obey described the Olubadan-elect as a dependable and reliable pillar in music recording, composition, promotion, advertisement and marketing, saying, nothing could be too much for any musician to do to ensure the success of Olubadan’s coronation.
He then prayed for continued peace, progress and development of Ibadanland under the leadership of the Olubadan elect, High Chief Saliu Adetunji.
Also, in a message by his Media Aide, Mr. Adeola Oloko to the President of Ibadan Descendants Union, Mr. Laja Akintayo, the Olubadan-in-waiting stated that “Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5 this year remain sacrosanct”.
The Ibadan Descendants Union in the United States were said to have asked for the date of the coronation and to determine the extent of their involvement.
They were also said to have urged the Olubadan-Designate to join them in Orlando, Florida, the United States of America where the national summit of all Ibadan Indigenes would be taking place in September this year.
