Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State will host the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup final scheduled for Friday, May 20, 2022.
Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Elder Paul Bassey who told journalists on Uyo on Monday, said that CAF management has confirmed the hosting rights.
Paul Bassey hinted that FIFA Pitch Consultant, Mr. Jorge Manuel Palmacuder arrived Uyo earlier to superintendent over the perfection of the pitch and training ground of the Godswill Akpabio International stadium also known as Nest of Champions.
The SSA on Sports who is the Chairman of Akwa United FC, said with the development, the stadium will be closed to all activities till after the match next week.
Bassey, further said a meeting will be held today between the FIFA Pitch Consultant and Akwa Ibom State Football Association (FA), Stadium Manager, Julius Berger as well as ministry staff to fine tune activities within the stadium.
Aside the stadium, the CAF delegation had also inspected the Victor Attah International Airport, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort and Ibom Specialist Hospital among others in line with CAF standard for host city.
Orlando Pirates of South Africa, TP Mazembe of Congo DR, RSB Berkane and Al Ahly Tripoly are in the semi finals to decide the Uyo bound finalists.
