The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with key disaster management stakeholders, has initiated a comprehensive campaign on solid waste management and flood preparedness targeting grassroots communities.

This public awareness campaign, conducted at motor parks in Katsina, involved the distribution of informational flyers and posters and included educational talks on waste management and flood preparedness.

This campaign follows a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at developing strategies to mitigate flood-related disasters and minimize the impacts of flooding. Abbani Imam Garki, Zonal Coordinator of the Northwest Zonal Office, emphasized the meeting’s objective to assess the preparedness of stakeholders for the annual flood predictions by NIMET and to underscore the significance of effective waste management.

Hajiya Binta Dangani, Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (KTSEMA), commended NEMA for its proactive approach, stating that “the campaign could not have been conducted at a better time.”

The interactive meeting featured valuable contributions from a range of participants, including the Executive Secretary of KTSEMA, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the State Commandant of the Federal Fire Service, and representatives from the Commissioner of Health, UNICEF, ACRESAL, NSCDC, DSS, NOA, NSREA, the Urban and Regional Planning Board, and the media, among others.
