The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is set to upgrade the structures, quality of facility, equipment and services to International standard as post insurgency health and medical interventions as part of its mandate.
The Managing Director, NEDC, Alhaji Goni Mohammed Alkali stated this on Friday, when he was conducted round the two hospitals by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Eye, Dr. Falmata Kyari who took him and his team round the eye hospital on inspection and assessment of the its facilities, equipments and building comp;ex.
While the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dental, Dr. Bukar Gana took the MD NEDC and his team round the Dental Hospital for the assessment of dental buildings, facility and equipment.
Fielding questions from, journalists after the inspection and assessment tour, the CEO of NEDC said, ” Although, the facilities have been functional and very busy at all times, it is better for us to come and see for ourselves rather than being told. We will try to take note or stock of the hospital’s needs to enable us know actual areas and what we are actually going to intervene.
“We normally have as part of our mandate interventions in health and medical areas towards improving the livelihood and living condition of the people of the North East.
‘Yes, apart from my renovation of just the building structure, we are also going to replace all the 20 to 30 years obsolete and grounded equipment with new and ultra modern and sophisticated equipment and machines,” Alkali said.
The Managing Director further explained that the rehabilitation works includes other buildings such as staff quarters generating set ,warehouse, office equipment, medical and laboratory equipments among others.
He added that as part of the interventions meant for the hospitals, training and retraining of the hospital’s staff from nurses, to medical doctors and others are all inclusive in order to meet up with the international requirement and standard.
The Managing Director was accompanied by the commission’s executive members, management and the media department of the commission, led by the Head of Media, Malam Abba Musa and others.
