NDLEA in Bauchi seized 230 kgs hard drugs in 3 months

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command has made a seizure 230.88kgs of hard drugs between January and March this year in the state.
The agency also secured the conviction of 11 suspects to various jail terms of imprisonment with several other cases at various stages of trial.
The Commander of the NDLEA in the state, Ibrahim Abdul said in a press statement in Bauchi Wednesday that 102 suspects were arrested with different types of hard drugs by the agency during the period under review.
Abdul explained that of the seized hard drugs, 91.96kgs were cannabis sativa while 139.92kgs were psychotropic substances including 1,162 bottles of cough syrup with codeine.
He disclosed that 13 drug dependent clients were re-integrated back to the society after a successful rehabilitation and counseling, revealing further that 38 other drug dependent clients are currently undergoing rehabilitation and counseling.
According to him, the agency has also succeeded in destroying a cannabis sativa farm in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
“Within the first quarter, a cannabis sativa farm was discovered in Azare, Katagum LGA. The command ensured the destruction of the farm while surveillance has been intensified to apprehend the farmers of this illicit drug”, Abdul said.
“Also, a block of cannabis sativa with a special compression and packaging was seized in Azare, the first of its kind to be seized in Bauchi State.”
Abdul commended the support and cooperation of the state government, sister security agencies and the general public in assisting the agency combat the menace of drug abuse and trafficking across the state.
