NDE to aid students’ performance in WAEC, NECO

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in collaboration with Elara Technologies Group, has commenced the training of qualified teachers to uplift the standard of academic performance of Secondary school leavers across the country.
Addressing a participants at a Two– Day Special Public Workshop in Akure, the Ondo state capital, the Director General of NDE, Mr Obayan Kunle said the training is targeted towards improving the performance of students in National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) examinations annually.
According to him, the NDE has identified a window in the educational sector by deploying unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions, especially those with background in education to coach sufficient students to further their studies.
Such initiative, he said is an intervention strategy to stem the tide of the drift and create employment opportunities for the unemployed graduates.
Also speaking at the occasion, the South West Zonal Coordinator of NDE, Alhaji Suaris Adebayo Adegbite disclosed that the Graduate Coaching Scheme (GCS), was one scheme that had being identified to be popular at the grass roots level.
He however recalled that the performance of students in those states that had the intervention was so impressive as a good number of students had five Credits including Mathematics and English language.
While calling for more collaborative efforts from both government and parents, Alhaji Adegbite said the scheme stands out of those private coaching centers where unqualified teachers are recruited for coaching between February and June each year.
Earlier in his address, the NDE Coordinator in Ondo State, Mr. Joseph Olayinka Olaitan said the Directorate has done her home work to enhance the sustainability of the scheme to generate employment as well as solving the poor performance of students in examinations.
He enjoined participants at the workshop to ensure the implementation of the scheme in their various states so as to achieve the aims and objectives which the scheme was meant for.
Elara Technologies later presented a paper tittled, ‘A Social Education Portal’ followed by interactive session on the application of Kranta concept.
