The Bishop of Anglican Communion, Calabar Diocese, Bishop Tuned Adeleye said the nations’ economy is in bad and sad shape and need urgent steps to restructure it in order to put food and money in the hands of suffering Nigerians.
He went on to state that “the mistake of this government is the promises it made during the electioneering campaigns and have not delivered them till date. Today people are holding it against it”.
Adeleye stated this in Calabar while fielding questions from newsmen on the state of the nation.
He declares “the economy is bad and it is so sad to acknowledge. There is no shelter, no security either. Change was voted for and so people are expecting real change and not hardship they experiencing today.
According to him, “the government told us that it had plans to effect the so much taunted change. Unfortunately, for several months , there were no ministers to drive the change. Rather,, the President clouded himself with old men like me who have nothing to offer”.
He called non Mr. President to do away with the old ministers and political aides to make way for the talented young men and women across the country to exhibit their leadership qualities.
Adeleye said “let there be food on our tables and money in our pockets. Let there be petrol for people to buy at cheap price and kerosene in our kitchens. By so doing, the people have be extremely happy again with government”.
He said “there is no expectation at all from Nigerians in this government. We are hungry. We are not having food to eat. People are suffering too much”.
The Bishop while answering another question retorted ” what is happening in the Federal has transcended down to states and local government areas. The whole system is broken down
There is no more accurate definition for corruption. The states are what they are today because the centre is also bad”.
He thumbed up for the anti-government protesters saying “because people are hungry, they have the right to protest so long as it is not violent. Government was only afraid that miscreants could capitalise on the protest and cause problem.
The Clergyman regretted that 18,000 Naira minimum wage can no longer feed two family not to think of picking up their domestic bills.
He said that government is spending so much on governance and suggested that Parliament should be on part-time basis so as to cut costs of maintaining and paying them their emoluments annually.
“Many people, he said, especially politicians are benefitting from where they did not sow and called for True Federalism as a way out of this economic mess in the country, he added”.
