National U-20 Females Arrive Conakry For Africa Junior Handball Championship

The National Under 20 Female Handball team have arrived Conakry, Guinea for the 28th Africa Female Junior Handball Championship.

The National Junior Handball Female team left Nigeria through Muritala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on Thursday morning colourfully.

Head Coach, Bukola Duru, talking to newsmen before leaving Lagos,  said the team is ready and will make Nigeria proud in Guinea, citing the friendly games they had against Safety Babes who are the champions of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.

“We are ready and with the level of training they have been getting, we’ll ensure we make Nigeria proud by proving our doubting Thomases wrong,” Coach Duro said.

“The board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) really supported us in all aspects and I know we will reciprocate by doing well on the court and ensure we not just qualify for the World Championship, but also win the cup.

” We had the experience of playing the defending champions of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League, Safety Babes thrice and with the experience we have, we can conquer Africa,” Coach Duru stressed.

The players also echoed what their coach said, led by Captain Toyin Yusuf, they said they are ready to win the cup’ for Nigeria.

“We are ready to win the cup’ and make Nigeria proud and with everything our coaches have put us through, we believe we are tactically and technically capable of doing well in the competition” Toyin said

The delegation is led by Technical Representative of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Coach Bala Mohammed who highlighted the level of support of HFN to the team.

The National Under 20 Female team which has been training intensively at the indoor sports hall of the Aguiyi Ironsi Military Cantonment in Abuja, will play hosts Guinea, Algeria and Gambia in Group B of the biennial handball championship which holds in Conakry, Guinea.

The championship will hold from the 19th to the 26th of February 2022 and Nigeria plays the first match against Guinea.

Final team list comprises, Nuhu Wuraola, Alawaye Rahmat, Daniel Catherine, Inikpi Aruwa, Gbamire Grace, Muhinat Yusuf, Babatunde Taiwo, Yusuf toyin, Abdullahi Favour, Adewole Faidat, Jimmy Gloria Habibat, Anih Jacinta, Babatunde Kehinde, Mathew Esther and Abdulrazak B. Idowu.
