Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Christian Oha has thumped up for the contractor, Joseph Odebeatu, handling the renovation work at the Olympic sized swimming pool of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, for a satisfactory job done so far.
He disclosed this to NNSports after he alongside the Director of Facilities and Stadium Management Development of the Ministry, Engr. Shehu Ibrahim accompanied by other top members of the Ministry last Friday visited the pool to ascertain the level of work done.
According to him, the fact that the job is about 95% completed is an indication that the contractor is serious about meeting the Ministry’s target even as he stated that the project will soon be commissioned in few weeks time.
“I am happy with what I saw today which shows that the contractor has met the target of the Ministry and there is need for other contractors to emulate him.
“When the Minster visited this place few months ago, the contractor was given a time limit on when to complete the project and I am happy that he kept to his promise and by the time I get to Abuja and brief relevant authorities, a date will be fixed for the commissioning”, he stated.
On renovation of other stadias across the country, the Permanent Secretary promised that the Ministry is working towards that as part of its plans to ensure that all sporting facilities are equally giving a face lift.
In his reaction, contractor of the project told NNSports that his passion for sports made him embark on the project and that he was happy he kept to the time given by the Ministry to complete the job.
“The only magic behind my embarking on the project and ensuring that it was completed on time was my passion for sport and I am happy to have kept to the time given by the Ministry”, concluded Odebeatu who is also a member of Nigeria Swimming Federation.
