Chairperson of Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) Mrs Adetoun Ogedengbe on Monday said the association has disbursed financial assistance to 570 less privileges in the state
Mrs. Ogedengbe who disclosed this while speaking at the disbursement of financial assistance noted that in the exercise, preference was given to persons living with disabilities (PWDs), aged (65 years and above), widows/widowers, single mothers and orphans during the selection .
According to the Lagos state NASoW Chairperson, it was the COVID-19 pandemic that necessitated lockdown of Lagos State by the President Muhammadu Buhari on 31st March, 2020 and that this in turn has further increased the level of dependence of the less privileged persons on the populace, saying, ” this is the major reason the association deem it fit to reach out to the less privileges.”

Mrs Ogedengbe added, “NASoW as the umbrella body of all professional social workers in Nigeria who practise Social Work which is a helping profession, has deemed it fit to complement the efforts of all the tiers of government which are aimed at cushioning the effects of the lockdown on Lagos State residents in general, the vulnerable groups in particular”.
“Cash assistance of sum of N5,000 to each beneficiary. The Association is supporting a total of five hundred and seventy (570) less privileged persons in all the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the State (ten (10) persons per LCDA) regardless of their tribe, sex, or religion. Preference waa given to the following categories of individuals: Persons Living with. Disabilities (PWDs). The aged (65 years and above). Widows/Widowers. Single mothers. Orphans. Daily income earners who have been affected by the lockdown. Destitute
She stressed that the distribution which was flagged off last Thursday 23rd April, 2020 will last till end of the Corona Virus pandemic in the country”,
New Nigerian learnt that the 570 people were drawn from all the 20LGAS and 37 LCDAS in the state and that 10 persons were selected from each LGA/LCDA regardless of their tribe, sex or religion
