Naira; Surgical operation and not devaluation

The former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku has dissociated himself from those calling for the devaluation of the naira, saying what the nation need is surgical operation of the eonomy and not devaluation of the currency.
Chief Anyaoku made the call at a public discourse, “Curtailing Nigeria’s Centrifugal Forces” in Akure to mark the 40th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State and the seventh anniversary of Dr. Mimiko’ administration.as the Governor of the state.
According to him, the President should convey a meeting of experts to appraise the situation of the economy of the country since devaluing the naira will further worsen the already battered economy.
Chief Anyaoku who was the Chairman of the occassion noted that what the nation needs most to move forward is the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Confab.
Other Discussants at the occassion, Senators Sheu Sanni and Ben Murray Bruce said devaluing the naira is like fighting corruption with one hand and promoting same on the other hand.
According to Senator Sani, all his efforts to initiate a process to broker peace with the Boko Haram insurgents through dialogue was sabotaged.
He however gave two options to ensure the release of the Chibok Girls which include application of force or going through round table “negotiation” to save the abducted school girls.
Also speaking, the former Minister of Information , Labaran Maku said the Federal Government should give much attention to Education for Nigeria to remain the giant of Africa, adding that ”the disaster will be too much for Africa if Nigeria fails”.
The former National Chairman of Labour Party, Barr Dan Nwanyanwu called on the people of Ondo State to have a rethink before electing the next governor for the state.
His words, ”do not allow sectional agendas to ruin the legacies Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has laid over the years, leaders must have the political will to avoid sectional sentiments”.
