The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) re-union 2016 is stipulated to hold between 12 and 15 of April, 2016 just as the NAF has commended Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar for what it described as ‘high level cooperation’ he has been being given to it towards the establishment of 89 Composite Group of the Force in the state.
The special commendation to Governor Abubakar by the Air Force is coming through Air Vice Marshal Adebowale when the latter paid a courtesy visit to Government House in Bauchi.
Air Vice Marshal Adebowale, also the chairmen of organizing committee of the re-union, expressed the appreciation of Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar to the Government and people of Bauchi State.
“I had the compliment of Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar who appointed me the Chairman organizing committee for the NAF Re-union 2016. The chief of Staff has approved Bauchi as the venue to host the event to mark the Air Force Day celebration”.
Adebowale described the Air Force Day celebration as a major annual event for the Nigeria Air Force.
“As most of our platforms are engaged in operation in the North East, the Chief of Air Staff has approved the NAF re-union to mark the occasion in the zone, and approved Bauchi as the venue”, he said.
Air Vice Marshal Adebowale explained that the essence of the NAF Re-union is to bring together both retired and serving officers to cross fertilize ideas towards the enhancement of service delivery and operational effectiveness in the Nigeria Air Force.
“We are here to assess the state of facilities on ground in Bauchi to enable us commence plans for the occasion in earnest and to formally announce our presence on ground in Bauchi to His Excellency”.
Marshal Adebowale explained that they were also in Bauchi to seek for the collaboration of Governor Mohammed Abubakar towards the success of the forthcoming event.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar had while responding, commended the efforts of the Nigeria Air Force in quelling insurgency in the Northeast sub-region.
“We have as Nigerians notice a complete U-turn of the Nigerian Air Force from 18 footed outfit to an outfit that is right mark in the middle of where the action is, trying to save Nigeria from these treacherous criminals”, he said.
The Governor described the choice of Bauchi for the NAF re-union 2016 as very apt for the reason that the bulk of personnel of the Nigeria Air Force are engaged in fighting insurgency in the North East.
Abubakar further explained that since the inception of his administration, the government has always been extending hands of friendship to the Nigeria Air Force, especially when the force approached the state for the setting up of the 89 Composite Group.
“People of Bauchi State do not have any regret for welcoming and giving that much land to the Nigeria Air Force, my request as I earlier made to the Chief of Air Staff is that we must ensure that in building the Nigeria Air Force 89 Composite Group in Bauchi, we must utilize the resources from the state”.
According to him, the Air Force should go outside the state looking for human and material resources only when Bauchi does not have such resources, stressing “First and foremost buy from every person residing and carrying out business in Bauchi”.
Activities lined up for the NAF Re-union 2016 in Bauchi, it was learnt, includes seminar, novelty football match, gala night, among others, to bring the Nigeria Air Force closer to the people of Bauchi.
