Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has announced that his administration has concluded plans to set up a committee to review the salary structure of civil servants in the state in line with the seventy thousand naira (N70,000) minimum wage pronouncement by the federal government.
Governor Alia who disclosed this during a dinner in his honour at Government House, Makurdi assured workers of more incentives to enhance their productivity.
The governor further disclosed that he has already secured funds for the payment of salaries for the next one year, promising to sustain good governance to achieve the desired new Benue in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
Speaking earlier in the day at his 34th priestly ordination anniversary celebration held at IBB Square, Makurdi, the governor dedicated all the accolades he received for good governance to the church that trained him.
“If you understand the mainstay of the church, the church supports social justice. So, when people are trying to over praise me for all I do as good governance, I say thank the church. It is through the training, through the discipline and through the social teachings of the church.
“The church emphasizes good governance and responsibility to humanity and this is what I have brought to the table to bear. So, while I give thanks to God and the good people of the state, I thank the church for training me and it is my resolve to continue to do what promotes the church, what promotes God”
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse cautioned Benue politicians to eschew pull him down syndrome among themselves and stop dragging the traditional institution into their political crisis.
He asserted that God chooses one person at a particular time for a particular purpose, noting that everyone has his own style and people to work with so as to achieve his set goals.
The Tor Tiv who, on behalf of the Benue State Traditional Council of Chiefs assured the governor of their cooperation to succeed advised that politics was over and therefore, people of the state should team up with the Governor to achieve development.
