An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has sharply reacted to the recent pronouncement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the federal government under his leadership from inception to date, the sum of over 500 billion was given to each of the 36 state governors, asking Nigerians to hold their respective governors accountable for the current socioeconomic hardship they are facing.
Shinkafi who is the Executive Director Patriots for Advancement of Peace and Social Development and former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stated this on Sunday, while fielding questions from journalists in Gusau via telephone interview.
According to him, the 36 state governors are the major problems of the country, not the federal government.
He challenged the governors for syphoning the money given to them for their personal interests rather than doing the needful to their people.
“These governors are our major problems in this country and it’s very unfortunate that the sum of five hundred and seventy billion Naira given to each of them by the federal were mostly diverted to their personal gains, lopsided political appointments, bad governance and corruption, not utilizing the money for the betterment of their people.
” I am calling on Nigerians, particularly youth and less privileged to hold their respective state governors accountable on what they did with the money given to them by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last one year”. He said.
He urged the federal government to always checkmate the governors excesses and financial recklessness at all levels for the development of the country.
On the issue of food security policy by the federal government, Shinkafi urged president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redouble commitment in addressing insecurity for the successful implementation of food security.
According to him, the insecurity have been contributing factor that ravage norther part of the country particularly northeast, North West and North Central.
“In Zamfara State, Katsina, and other states in the Northwest, over 80 per cent of cultivated hectares cannot be cultivated and are inaccessible to farmers, hence the need for proactive measures by the federal government to address banditry.
” On the nationwide protest, if you look at the agitation of the protesters, they are not agitating for fuel subsidy but gave much emphasis on insecurity affecting the region, so there is need for Mr. President to key into fighting against banditry in the region for peace to thrive”.
Shinkafi suggested that, the federal government should put in place the rapid economic recovery plan and economic growth for the federal government to recover the national economy squarely .
