The Officers of Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), had petitioned the Commandant General of the Corps, Mr. Abdullahi Ghana Mohammed and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over the misappropriation of their N300 million welfare packages.
A copy of Save Our Soul (SOS) petition written by the affected Officers which was made available to Newsmen in Akure, the Ondo state capital, called for immediate investigation of activities of the Executive Committee of the Cooperative Society.
Some Officers, who spoke with our Correspondent on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the petition became imperative since the state command of the Corps had failed to bring the perpetrators to book, neither did the national headquarters did anything concerning the matter in spite of series of letters to them on the development.
It was gathered that the leadership of the Command’s Cooperative Society had allegedly involved in many atrocities which included granting themselves and their loyalists in the Command excess loans as well as involved in land racketeering.
It was reliably gathered that the alleged financial misappropriation by the executives, has brought the cooperative society of the command into a state of comatose and liquidation
A concerned officer said, ” the executive went ahead to access a loan of N300,000,000 from a branch of First Bank in Akure, with the collaboration of the Manager of the bank, and a civilian, using fictitious names and accounts of the people that were not members of the Corps without notifying the Congress which is against the bye law of the NSCDC Cooperative Society.”
It was however gathered that the state command of the Corps had acted on the matter by arresting the perpetrators last year but after a while, they were released and since then, noting had happened.
“The way the matter is being handled shows that our bosses want to sweep the matter under the carpet. That is why we don’t want to keep quiet, this is not supposed to be happening in a law enforcement organization, this is an injustice, ” another officer lamented.
In his reaction however, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Kayode Balogun who confirmed the development said the perpetrators had been arrested and detained at the headquarters of the command in Akure.
”We are not keeping quiet about the matter, the officers concerned have been arrested, and currently they are in the cell, while the investigation is still going on” Balogun further stated.
