Multi-billion naira TCN’s abandoned project worries Counciul Boss, as community agitations stalls operation
By; Buhari B. Bello, Jos.
The  Management Committee Chairman, Pankshin Local Government in  Plateau state, Mr Stephen Jings has expressed displeasure over the abandoned multi-billion naira sub-station project of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in his domain.
The company was reported to have completed the project and handed it over to TCN in Jos in 2013.
But some community members in Foron in Barkin Ladi and Duk in Pankshin have refused to allow the sub-station be connected to electricity over the issue of non-compensation.
Gov. Simon Lalong, who visited the project site at Duk in Pankshin, expressed shock on the reasons such a project should be allowed to waste.
“We are in dire need of electricity supply in this council and the state as a whole. And when the project is commissioned, it will service the central, southern parts of the state and parts of Bauchi State, ’’ he said.
Jings, who double as the state ALGON Chairman called on the Federal Government to direct TCN to complete the project and connect the sub-station in the interest of the state.
Earlier, Mr Thomas Duniya, Assistant General Manager, TCN Jos, told the chairman that the only impediment was the agitation by some community members in Foron and Duk who alleged that they had not been compensated.
Duniya told the governor that there was need for the state government to wade into the matter to help resolve the claims of the two communities.
According to him, once that is done, it won’t take TCN more than a month to connect the sub-station to electricity.
He listed the Central, Southern part of the state, Bogoro and Tafawa Belewa in Bauchi State as the communities that would benefit from the project.
Mr Cyril Adams, acting paramount ruler of Ngolong Ngas, assured the TCN of the traditional council’s readiness to assist in resolving the issues that were hindering the completion of the project.
Adams promised that the council would do its best to support the current administration to move the state and the nation forward.
